CAT GOWARD
Contemporary Mountain Artist
“I paint the mountains not only as they look, but as they feel - bringing that feeling into your home.” - Cat Goward
Cat Goward Art is about bringing the feeling of the mountains into your home. Known for her distinctive abstract mountain paintings, Cat creates contemporary landscape artwork inspired by the atmosphere, light and emotion of high-altitude places - capturing not simply how the mountains look, but how it feels to be there.
Cat’s story with art began when her grandmother placed a paintbrush in her hand at the age of four. She spent countless childhood hours painting alongside her in her studio on the Kent coast, beginning a lifelong connection with painting.
After years working in the corporate world, a trip to Nepal in 2022 changed everything. Trekking through the snow-covered peaks of the Annapurna Circuit reignited Cat’s love of painting and became the inspiration behind the mountain landscapes she creates today.
Crossing the Thorong La Pass was a defining moment. Surrounded by the Himalayas and watching the changing light transform the landscape, Cat realised that photographs could capture what the mountains looked like, but not quite how it felt to be there. She returned to her late grandmother’s studio with a renewed desire to paint and to preserve the atmosphere, scale and emotion of those experiences on canvas.
Hiking the GR20 in Corsica
Today, Cat creates atmospheric, abstract mountain paintings from her London studio, inspired by the landscapes that stay with us long after the journey has ended.
Her experiences on the Annapurna Circuit, Tour du Mont Blanc, Corsica’s GR20 and other mountain adventures form the foundations of her contemporary landscape paintings and mountain art collections. Through expressive colour, layered skies and textured peaks, she captures the changing light, silence, scale and distinctive character of the mountains.
Cat began painting mountains as a way of holding onto her own memories of these places. Now, through original mountain paintings and bespoke landscape commissions, she creates artwork for fellow adventurers and nature lovers who share that connection - bringing the feeling of the mountains into their homes.
